Meeting Mark Colbourne MBE

You don’t meet many people in life who offer real inspiration, but I have to say after spending a day with Mark Colbourne MBE he gave me and the Hope 66 team a much needed boost.

Mark Colbourne in the autumn of 2011 was given the opportunity by the Great Britain Para-cycling team to perform at the 2011 World Para-cycling Road Championships in Roskilde in Denmark, only 2 years after leaving Hospital with a broken back. Mark Colbourne accepted this challenge and confidently raced in the 10 mile individual road time trial event and incredibly won the Silver medal, just slightly behind the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Champion Michael Teuber from Germany.

In the summer of 2011 Mark Colbourne entered into his first summer of road and time trial racing for the Great Britain Para-cycling team as a guest rider with the team and he certainly didn’t disappoint his country with his gutsy performances. He raced in three P1 International events across Europe and came away with 3 podium placed medals and then went on to win a further 2 Silver medals in both Para-cycling World Cup races in Segovia Spain and in Baie-Comeau Canada.

During his visit to ride with the Hope66 team and our visit to Hope House we had a chat with Mark about his amazing story

This was in the early years of the PVCu window industry boom and it was not long until he was providing skilled craftsmen to window manufacturing companies and Local Authorities for their commercial contracts. Due to many commercial contracts awarded and due to the large quantities of product the company was buying it was a natural progression to start their own manufacturing business to supply the Private Sector. The Profix Group also supply other window and door manufactures including installers with products and components through our online business portal Fabstore which has been marketing and trading online since 2003. “My outlook on life is simple, love your family, work hard, have fun and try to help others less fortunate than yourself, I do a bit of charity work which usually means punishing myself in some sport related scheme and trust me I am no sportsman ! I have had much success (and a few failures) in my working life and hopefully by sharing some of my life experiences will help generations of budding entrepreneurs to follow.” Alan Sadler
